About Mark Counts

Mark’s legal career began in 1999, when he was licensed by the State Bar of Texas.  Over the course of the next twenty-five years, Mark served as a commercial litigator in Harris, Montgomery, Galveston and Fort Bend Counties.  During this time, Mark developed a reputation for being an aggressive, hard-nosed, competent trial lawyer who was focused on finding pragmatic solutions to his commercial clients’ legal problems.  In 2025, Mark closed his litigation practice and he currently focuses on providing legal services exclusively to real estate investors and business owners.

Prior to entering private practice, Mark served on active duty in the U.S. Army.  He is a former member of the Infantry, Ordnance and Judge Advocate General’s Corps and has three military occupations skills (11C, 91B and 55A).  While in the Army, Mark was the labor and employment attorney for Fort Polk, Louisiana and a general counsel to Bayne Jones Army Hospital.  Mark also briefly served as an investigator for the U.S. Department of Defense and was responsible to investigate equal employment opportunity complaints brought under Title VII.

In 2009, Mark formed a private equity company focused on acquiring, improving, managing and selling real estate assets within the State of Texas.  Over the course of time, Mark steadily grew this company from one $60,000 rental home into a diverse, multimillion dollar commercial real estate portfolio which he currently manages.  Based on his own personal experience, Mark assists business owners with the acquisition, growth and management of their real estate holdings.

Mark was born in Richlands, Virginia and he attended Garden High School in Oakwood, Virginia. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Polytechnical Institute & State University (Va. Tech).  Mark is a graduate of the U.S. Army Infantry School and the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School.  For his military service, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and two Army Achievement Medals.  Mark qualified as a sharpshooter with an M16 (but is hell on wheels with an 81mm mortar tube).

Mark graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1999 and from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School in 2000.  Mark is a former Langdell Scholar, a former Adjunct Professor at Upper Iowa University and Cy-Fair College and the recipient of six Phi Delta Phi academic achievement awards.

Mark is a licensed automobile dealer, a licensed general contractor, a licensed water distributor and an avid car collector.  Mark owns and assists in the operation of a self-storage facility (Oakwood Storage), a used car dealership (Speed Demon), an automotive repair facility (Bargain Brakes), and a water distribution company which holds the right to distribute La Dolcezzatm products.  In his limited spare time and as a testament to his great intestinal fortitude, Mark enjoys paying for the maintenance of a veritable fleet of vintage automobiles including a 1960 Dnepr motorcycle, 1965 VW Beetle, a 1974 VW Thing, a 1976 Porsche 914, a 1976 Triumph TR7 Victory Edition Coupe and a 1980 Triumph TR7 convertible.
